Just a quick note for those of you who pre-ordered an EOS 40D though Amazon from this website and are wondering about delivery.
The first few orders were filled yesterday (August 31st), though with the holiday weekend coming up it's not likely they will be delivered before September 4th.
So far only the 40D body as shipped. I'm not seeing any record of them shipping the kit with the 28-135IS lens so
far, but that may not mean much as I think they're getting at least 10 orders for the body for every one order of the kit. I'll let you know when I can confirm the kit is shipping.
UPDATE: - As of September 1st, both the EOS 40D body only the kit consisting of the EOS 40D and the 28-135IS lens are now shipping.
Note that the delivery date displayed with your order may not have been updated yet. Mine still shows October! However I wrote to Amazon complaining about the changes in delivery dates and the discrepancy between what they showed on their web page and what they said on the order page and in email. They apologized for the confusion and said that despite what I might see on my order page, the camera would in fact be shipped out next week (on the 4th).
I'd also like to think those who ordered via a link on this website, since that helps to provide funds that enable me to keep the site up and running.
I'd hope to have at least a brief review of my opinions on the new EOS 40D up on the site by the end of the week, along with some test data. So far, from published images, it looks like the high ISO performance is good, but not "head and shoulders" above that of the EOS 20D and 30D. Otherwise I haven't seen anything posted that's negative about the new camera. It's said to handle much like 30D, but with a quieter and more solid sounding shutter. All of the images I've seem published so far look pretty good. You can see some full size sample images on these two Japanese websites:
