Jessops plummets on third profit warning -Business-Industry Sectors-Retailing-TimesOnline

Jessops plummets on third profit warning : "Shares in Jessops, the UK camera retailer, plunged 73 per cent, or 34p, to 12.5p today after it issued its third profit warning in less than 80 days and gave warning that it would not have enough cash to order Christmas stock.

Jessops said that a digital camera and camcorder price war meant that sales by value had plummeted, and that it would dive £8.5 million into the red in the first half, compared with the £6.8 million profit it had predicted only a month ago and the £19 million it had expected in November.

Sales of compact digital cameras, already down more than 10 per cent in January at the time of the last warning, had deteriorated further and were down 16 per cent in February, while camcorder sales had fallen from 17 per cent last month to 22 per cent. "

Metadata mangling in Windows Vista | News.blog | CNET News.com

Metadata mangling in Windows Vista | News.blog | CNET News.com: "Microsoft wants to make it easy to label photos with metadata--information such as where the picture was taken and who's in it--but you should be careful before you use the company's software for doing so.
Windows Vista and the Microsoft Photo Info tool can cause problems with metadata or the image itself.
According to one Microsoft Knowledge Base article, 'When you edit the properties of a photo to add metadata to that photo in Windows Vista, the software for the digital camera may no longer recognize the metadata that is automatically added to the photo by the digital camera.' "

Adobe to take Photoshop online | CNET News.com

Adobe to take Photoshop online | CNET News.com: "Hoping to get a jump on Google and other competitors, Adobe Systems plans to release a hosted version of its popular Photoshop image-editing application within six months, the company's chief executive said Tuesday.

The online service is part of a larger move to introduce ad-supported online services to complement its existing products and broaden the company reach into the consumer market, Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen told CNET News.com.

Adobe intends to offer a hosted version of its popular Photoshop image-editing program in the next three to six months, according to CEO Bruce Chizen.

Like Adobe Remix, the hosted Photoshop service is set to be free and marketed as an entry-level version of Adobe's more sophisticated image-editing tools, including Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Chizen envisions revenue from the Photoshop service coming from online advertising.
